Iranians in the Caucasus Region need hope. They feel trapped. They are discriminated against by the people of this region, and for Iranian believers, going back to Iran is not an option. For many, hope comes by obtaining a visa to a western country or accumulating enough wealth to take them to a better place. Most of them do not have an eternal perspective. A Portuguese pastor once described Portugal as a grandmother. He said that it is possible to teach grandma to dance, but she still has old bones. What he meant was that Portugal and the Portuguese have a long history with Christianity. It’s not a new thing. An encouraging thing to know is that any evangelism tool or strategy we use here would be applicable in the States, so team members will be equipped to do the same in their home context.

The Orthodox people believe they are Christian simply because of the fact that they were born into this nation and baptized as children. This region is in need of a spiritual awakening. We can help to overcome this by ministering to parents, and especially students, that true salvation comes from having a personal relationship with Jesus and not from following the rules and traditions of the Orthodox Church.
